SEN Teaching Assistant

North London

September 2026

Are you passionate about helping young children thrive both socially and academically?

A welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school is seeking a caring and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with additional needs and make a genuine difference to their educational journey.

The role will primarily involve supporting a verbal Year 1 pupil with Down Syndrome who is transitioning into spending more time within the classroom environment. The pupil enjoys dancing, engaging activities, and benefits from a nurturing and encouraging approach. You will also provide support to another pupil with an EHCP who presents with behavioural needs and requires guidance to access learning successfully.

What the role will involve:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support within the classroom.
  • Supporting a Year 1 pupil with Down Syndrome to access learning and develop independence.
  • Assisting a second pupil with behavioural needs to engage positively in lessons.
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement support strategies.
  • Encouraging communication, social development, and participation in classroom activities.
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting children with SEND, particularly in a primary setting.
  • Be patient, nurturing, and resilient.
  • Have a good understanding of inclusive practice and child development.
  • Be confident supporting children with a range of needs, including learning and behavioural differences.
  • Be committed to helping children achieve their full potential.

Why apply?

  • Join a supportive and welcoming school community.
  • Work alongside experienced SEN professionals.
  • Make a meaningful impact on the lives of young children.
  • Gain valuable experience within a mainstream primary setting with a strong inclusive ethos.

The school is looking to arrange trial mornings and trial days, so applications from available candidates are welcomed. Please apply to this advert or contact Katie at Parker Smith Inclusion on 0203 011 4848.
