Full-time and Long-term (opportunity with permanent potential)

Every small step is a huge achievement. Could you be the person who helps a child and young person take it?
Some children communicate with words. Others communicate through a smile, eye contact, a gesture, or simply trusting someone enough to let them into their world.
As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you'll become part of those moments.
We're working with a warm, welcoming specialist school in Southwark that supports children and young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and complex needs. They are looking for a compassionate, committed Teaching Assistant who understands that progress isn't always measured in grades, it can be a child making a choice independently, engaging with a sensory activity, or sharing a moment of connection.
This isn't just another classroom role. It's an opportunity to make a genuine, lasting difference to the lives of pupils who rely on consistency, patience and people who truly care.
Whether you've supported children with PMLD professionally or have personal experience caring for someone with additional needs, if you're someone who celebrates every achievement, big or small, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll be doing
- Providing personalised 1:1 support tailored to each pupil's individual learning, communication and physical needs
- Supporting pupils to access engaging, sensory-based learning activities
- Encouraging communication through a range of strategies including visual supports, sensory resources and alternative communication methods
- Assisting with personal care and promoting dignity, independence and wellbeing
- Working closely with teachers, therapists and families to help every pupil reach their full potential
- Creating a calm, safe and nurturing environment where every child feels valued and understood
We're looking for someone who...
- Has professional or personal experience supporting children or young people with PMLD, complex needs or severe learning difficulties
- Is naturally patient, empathetic and resilient with a positive attitude
- Believes every child deserves the opportunity to learn, communicate and thrive
- Is keen to build a rewarding career within specialist education
- Can commit to a full-time, long-term position where building trusting relationships is key
Why this role?
