Nurture Teacher

Contract: Temp to perm

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30-16:30

Salary: Fringe Teacher Pay Scale up to M6

As a mainstream teacher, you know how emotionally draining it is trying to teach children with SEND within a mainstream setting that is overwhelming for the child, with a curriculum that doesn't suit their needs or development. Nearly one in three ECTs leave the sector within five years of qualifying from burnout, but what if you don't fit into the mainstream regime too? What if you have the type of passion for SEND to thrive in a specialist setting?

A specialist SEMH school that understand the gaps of education for children with SEND, are seeking a resilient Nurture Teacher to support their children in Key Stage 1 and 2. Many of these children have dual diagnoses of autism, ADHD and complex trauma, meaning the right individual needs compassion, consistency and the ability to have relationship-centered approaches to learning, while maintaining firm boundaries.

The Role

You will create a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment where children feel valued, develop trusting relationships and are supported to reach their potential. You will recognise that behaviour can be a form of communication and respond with empathy, consistency and understanding.

Working with children who may experience barriers to learning, emotional regulation and social interaction, you will balance academic progress with emotional wellbeing, confidence-building and the development of essential life skills.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs and social, emotional and mental health difficulties.
  • Understands the impact of trauma and the importance of attachment-aware, trauma-informed practice.
  • Can adapt teaching and learning to meet a wide range of individual needs.
  • Builds positive, trusting relationships through patience, empathy and consistency.
  • Creates clear routines, predictable boundaries and an inclusive learning environment.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues, families and other professionals to support each child's development.
  • Is reflective, resilient and committed to helping every child experience success.

What Makes This Opportunity Special?

You will have the opportunity to look beyond a child's challenges, recognise their strengths and celebrate progress in all its forms. From developing emotional regulation and social skills to rebuilding confidence and re-engaging with learning, your work will help children develop the foundations they need to thrive. You will also receive tailored support from SEND specialist consultants, who will take the time to listen to your needs and match your skillset to the right role.

If you believe that connection comes before correction, relationships are at the heart of learning, and every child deserves the chance to succeed, we would love to hear from you.
