Easily commutable from: Brixton, Clapham, Westminster, Peckham and Bermondsey

It can be a very lonely and confusing time when you are a teenager. It can be even more complex as a neurodiverse young person, navigating emotions, thoughts, and overall development, when they are still working at a KS1/KS2 learning level.

PS Inclusion is proud to continue its partnership and support a wonderful SEND school in South London. Every pupil has an EHCP, and social, emotional and mental health needs are a main need across the school. Many of the pupils are working within the primary curriculum and so need a Teacher who can deliver that content to teenagers in a way that engages them, rather than the opposite.

About the School & Your Role as a Nurture Teacher:

Class ratios range from 5 - 10 pupils, with a handful of Support Staff in every classroom. The curriculum is planned around each pupil’s needs and stage of development, so you start from where each pupil is. The leadership team is experienced in SEMH, and staff plan together around each pupil, everyone is part of the same team, with a sole focus on driving student engagement.

You'll also work closely with other specialist SEND teachers and a wider multidisciplinary team, with the added opportunity for the role to develop into a permanent position.

  • Plan and teach adapted lessons for secondary classes.
  • Teach primary curriculum content to secondary-age pupils in a way that suits their age.
  • Support pupils through periods of dysregulation and help them settle back into learning.
  • Contribute to EHC Plan reviews with clear evidence of each pupil’s progress.
  • Work with support staff to build steady, trusting relationships with every pupil.

What You Will Do:

  • Hold QTS
  • Confidence teaching the primary curriculum, through primary training or solid experience delivering or adapting this for pupils.
  • Secondary-trained Teachers with primary curriculum experience are welcome to apply, as are mainstream Teachers who have supported SEMH or autistic pupils
  • Build positive relationships with your pupils by taking the time to understand their individual needs and providing a consistent, reliable presence.
  • Develop an understanding of emotional dysregulation and learn how to support pupils to self-regulate, including during challenging moments.
  • Maintain calm, consistent boundaries and use effective de-escalation techniques to prevent situations from escalating.

Do You Have What It Takes?

  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges or barriers to learning.
  • Experience working with children or young people, particularly those who may display challenging behaviour (whether paid or voluntary).
  • The ability to stay calm, composed and reassuring when situations become challenging.
  • Confidence in following behaviour support plans and maintaining clear, consistent boundaries.
  • An Enhanced Child and Adult DBS on the Update Service, or a willingness to obtain one with our support.
