Nurture Teacher – Autism/SEMH Specialist (Alternative Provision)
Primary School Setting | Two Brand-New Classes | Full-Time Position
Salary: Competitive (MPS/UPS - Outer London)
Start Date: September 2025
Are you an experienced, resilient, and compassionate teacher with a passion for supporting pupils with Autism, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and challenging behaviours?
We are seeking a Nurture Teacher to lead two newly established classes within our forward-thinking primary school, supporting children with complex profiles including Autism, high levels of dysregulation, and SEMH. This is a unique opportunity to shape an Alternative Provision (AP) environment from the ground up, backed by a committed senior leadership team.
About the Role:
You will be teaching and leading learning in a small, highly supported class designed to meet the needs of children who display:
-
Autism with high sensory and emotional regulation needs
-
SEMH challenges, including combative outbursts, swearing, and physical behaviours such as scratching, biting, pinching, and spitting
-
Low self-esteem, attachment needs, and high levels of anxiety
This role will be challenging, but for the right person, it’s an incredibly rewarding opportunity to make a life-changing difference.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
-
Has a solid background in teaching pupils with Autism and/or SEMH
-
Understands and is prepared for the physical and emotional challenges of managing dysregulation and behaviour that can be aggressive
-
Uses trauma-informed, nurture-based, and relational approaches to behaviour
-
Can plan and deliver a tailored curriculum that balances academic progress with emotional regulation and social development
-
Works well in a multidisciplinary team with support staff, therapists, and external agencies
-
Is calm, patient, and proactive in the face of challenging behaviour
What We Offer:
-
A newly designed provision with your input from the start
-
High staff-to-pupil ratios and behaviour specialist support
-
Access to continuous professional development including Team Teach, trauma-informed practice, and Autism education training
-
A supportive senior leadership team that values wellbeing and staff voice
-
The chance to be part of a truly inclusive and progressive school
This is more than a teaching role – it’s a calling to nurture, support, and guide some of our most vulnerable learners.
