A specialist education setting in West Drayton, West London is seeking a Nurture Teacher / Deputy SENCO to join its team from September 2026.

This is a unique hybrid role, combining responsibility for teaching and nurturing pupils with additional needs alongside supporting the development and coordination of SEND provision across the setting.

It would suit an experienced SEN Teacher, SEMH Teacher, Nurture Teacher or classroom teacher who is passionate about inclusive education and is looking to develop their SEND leadership experience.

About the Role

As a Nurture Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging, differentiated and accessible lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils with SEND, SEMH and additional learning needs.

You will create a safe, structured and supportive classroom environment where pupils feel able to participate, make mistakes, develop confidence and make meaningful progress.

You will understand that for some young people, barriers to learning can extend beyond the curriculum. Anxiety, low confidence, previous experiences and difficulties with emotional regulation can all affect a pupil's ability to engage with education.

Your role will be to provide the consistency, structure and encouragement that enables pupils to re-engage with learning.

Alongside your teaching responsibilities, you will work closely with the SENCO as Deputy SENCO, helping to coordinate and develop SEND provision across the setting.

You will support staff with appropriate strategies and interventions, contribute to EHCP processes and reviews, and help ensure that pupils receive the right support to overcome barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high-quality, differentiated lessons

• Teach and support pupils with SEND, SEMH and additional learning needs

• Adapt teaching and learning to meet individual needs

• Create a positive, structured and inclusive classroom environment

• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils

• Promote independence, resilience, confidence and emotional wellbeing

• Maintain high expectations while providing appropriate support

• Assess, monitor and record pupil progress

• Develop personalised approaches to support individual pupils

• Support the SENCO with the coordination of SEND provision

• Contribute to the identification and assessment of additional needs

• Support the development and review of SEND provision

• Help colleagues implement effective SEND strategies and interventions

• Contribute to EHCP processes and annual reviews

• Liaise with parents, carers and external professionals where appropriate

• Support the effective implementation of SEND policies and procedures

• Promote inclusive practice across the setting

• Contribute to a positive culture around SEND, nurture and inclusion

About You

You will ideally be an experienced Teacher, SEN Teacher, SEMH Teacher or Nurture Teacher with experience supporting pupils with additional needs.

You may already have experience as an SENCO, Deputy SENCO, Assistant SENCO, SEN Lead or SEND Coordinator, or you may be an experienced teacher looking to take the next step into SEND leadership.

You will have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience working with pupils with SEND, SEMH or additional learning needs

• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills

• A good understanding of differentiated and inclusive teaching

• Excellent communication and organisational skills

• The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues

• Confidence working collaboratively with families and professionals

• A commitment to high standards of teaching and learning

• A genuine passion for SEND and inclusive education

You will be patient, emotionally intelligent and adaptable, while being confident in maintaining boundaries and managing challenging behaviour.

Most importantly, you will understand that behaviour is often communication and recognise that pupils may need a different route into learning rather than lower expectations.
