Teaching beyond the classroom.

Are you a teacher who believes learning doesn't have to happen within four walls?

Do you have a passion for outdoor learning, a love of animals and a desire to help young people overcome barriers to learning through a practical, therapeutic approach to education?

Parker Smith Inclusion is working in partnership with a specialist SEN school in Epping Forest to recruit an Outdoor Specialist SEMH Teacher. This is a unique opportunity to combine your teaching skills with the outdoors, helping young people develop confidence, emotional resilience and a positive relationship with learning.

About the Outdoor Specialist SEMH Teacher role

  • Teach a secondary-aged class within a specialist SEMH setting.

  • Deliver a bespoke curriculum focused on outdoor and practical learning.

  • Support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.

  • Create a therapeutic learning environment that prioritises emotional wellbeing, engagement and personal development.

  • Use the SCERTS framework to support social communication, emotional regulation and development where appropriate.

  • Work across different outdoor environments, bringing variety and creativity to your teaching.

About the school

This multisite specialist school supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including social, emotional and mental health challenges.

With a strong focus on individualised learning and therapeutic support, the school recognises that every pupil learns differently. Outdoor experiences and practical activities are central to helping pupils build confidence, develop independence and re-engage with education.

Although you will have a designated base, you will also work across a variety of outdoor locations, making this an ideal opportunity for a teacher who enjoys variety and wants to take learning beyond the traditional classroom.

Who would suit this role?

We are keen to hear from teachers who are passionate about SEMH and believe in looking beyond behaviour to understand the needs of each young person.

You will bring patience, resilience and a nurturing approach, alongside the ability to create meaningful learning experiences for pupils who may have struggled in traditional educational settings.

If you believe every young person deserves to feel safe, understood and given the opportunity to succeed, we would love to hear from you.
