Outreach Learning Mentor – Therapeutic Support for Young People

Location: Barking and Dagenham
Hours: Full time Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm

This is a chance to make a real difference for young people who need extra support to re-engage with learning and life.

We are recruiting an Outreach Learning Mentor to join a leading therapeutic organisation working across London. The team provides consistent guidance and care for vulnerable young people, helping them regain stability, confidence and purpose.

You will support young people who have been out of education for extended periods and may not yet be ready to return to mainstream school. Over two terms you will help with induction, assessment and transition, providing stability, guidance and therapeutic support as they take their next steps.

Many of the young people you will work with have social, emotional and mental health needs or Autism Spectrum Condition. Some may have experienced trauma, exploitation or other challenging circumstances. Your role will be to build meaningful relationships, support emotional regulation and provide interventions that empower them to progress at their own pace.

Why This Role Matters

This organisation has a strong record of transforming lives. Young people often regain confidence, re-engage with learning and develop emotional resilience thanks to consistent one-to-one support.

For example, a student with a history of exclusions, low attendance, PTSD and behavioural difficulties recently benefited from consistent mentoring and successfully transitioned into a specialist school. Their attendance reached 93 percent and they are now thriving. Your support will help more young people achieve similar outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop personalised learning and support plans for each young person

  • Provide one-to-one therapeutic mentoring outside of a classroom setting

  • Support young people to move from disengagement to stability, confidence and achievement

What You Will Receive

  • Lunch and travel expenses covered during the working day

  • Full time hours Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm

  • The opportunity to support multiple young people across London

Who We Are Looking For

  • Experience supporting young people with dysregulated behaviour and understanding the underlying factors

  • A trauma informed and therapeutic approach

  • Compassion, resilience and a genuine desire to make a positive difference
