Have you worked with a pupil who did far better one to one than in a busy classroom?
I am working with a well-established SEN provision who organise outreach services in South West London. They need an Outreach SEN Tutor to deliver one-to-one learning sessions for young people across Kingston and Richmond.
The role and the setting
The young people you support are not currently attending school. Some are autistic or have ADHD. Others have speech, language and communication needs, moderate learning difficulties or SEMH needs. Ages range from primary through to secondary, so each session looks different.
Many of these young people have had a run of difficult experiences in education. A calm, reliable adult who arrives each week on time and prepared can change how they feel about learning.
You will meet each young person in their home or in a community space, such as a local library. Sessions follow the young person’s interests and what they can manage that day. For some, the first goal is simply feeling comfortable with a new adult. For others, it is catching up on reading, writing and maths.
You will travel between sessions and work on your own for much of the day. This suits someone who enjoys variety and can organise their own time well. You will keep in regular contact with the outreach team, who hold each young person’s wider plan.
This is a long-term role, so you will work with the same young people over months and see their progress build.
Living in or near Twickenham or Surbiton makes the travel easy.
What you will do

- Talk with parents and carers about how sessions are going
About you

- You have at least one full year of experience working in a school
- You are confident working independently and managing your own schedule
- Experience as a TA, HLTA, learning mentor or SEN teacher would suit you well
