You did not train for years to spend your career feeling like an afterthought.
You know what good therapy looks like. You know what it can do for a child when the conditions are right. But somewhere along the way, you started noticing the gap between that and the reality of your working week. The recommendations that go unread. The sessions that feel rushed. The meetings where your clinical voice is heard but not quite listened to.
You are not burnt out. You are not ready to give up. You are just quietly wondering whether somewhere out there, a setting exists that actually understands what occupational therapy is for. This is that setting.
A specialist SEND school in central London is looking for a Paediatric Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join a team where therapy is not bolted on. It is built in. Every classroom, every timetable decision, every interaction in the corridor, all of it is shaped by the same therapeutic principles. Your OT knowledge will not sit in a folder. It will live in the children's room every single day.
What this looks like in practice
Your caseload is structured by class, up to four classes, and the responsibility is real and meaningful. You will lead therapy sessions, independence and communication groups, and joint planning with teachers. You will be present throughout the school day, including during unstructured times, because the children here need an OT who sees the whole picture, not just the clinic-room version.
You will work alongside speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, specialist teachers, and a pastoral team who all operate from the same integrated model. You will contribute to IEPs and Annual Reviews, lead staff and parent training each term, and shape TA-led interventions. Dedicated planning time, regular clinical supervision, and specialist therapeutic facilities are part of how this school looks after its therapy team. Because it does look after them.
What you will bring
- HCPC registered
- Paediatric SEND experience
- School-based SEND experience
- Confident across 1:1, small group, and whole-class settings
- Comfortable leading on IEPs and Annual Reviews
- Someone who genuinely wants to be part of a team, not just placed alongside one
The children in this school have often been let down by settings that did not understand them. They deserve an OT who has been waiting for the right place to do their best work. If that is you, it is time to have a conversation.
