Central London | £35,000 - £50,000 per year | Full-time | Permanent | ASAP or January 2027
Interviews are arranged ASAP - early applications are strongly recommended
What does a child’s school day look like when every adult around them understands their sensory needs?
I am recruiting a Paediatric Occupational Therapist for a specialist SEND school in Central London. This is a permanent, full-time role with primary- and secondary-aged pupils. The school is looking for an OT with Sensory Integration training and at least three years’ paediatric experience.
About the Occupational Therapist Role
Your week mixes 1:1 sessions with small group work in and out of the classroom. Caseloads are small, so you can stay with a pupil until their targets are met and see the change show up in lessons. You design each intervention from your own clinical judgement.
You also help develop whole-school sensory strategies, so your work reaches pupils beyond your own caseload. Regular clinical supervision gives you space to reflect on your practice and talk through complex cases.
About the School and the Children
Many pupils have Autism and social communication needs, and some also have sensory processing and motor difficulties. Some find it hard to explain what they are feeling. A pupil who keeps leaving the room, or cannot settle to write, may be telling you something about their senses.
The class team and the therapy team plan together, and therapy is part of the school week. When you agree on a strategy with a class team, they use it between your sessions. New staff receive structured support when they join, so you can settle in with the people around you.
What You Will Do
- Formally assess pupils and write clear OT reports
- Write and review individual therapy programmes for priority pupils
- Deliver group OT sessions and track measurable targets
- Work on life skills and everyday independence with older pupils
- Guide and supervise a Therapy Assistant
About You
- A genuine interest in SEND, Autism and sensory processing
- A degree in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC registration
- Completed Sensory Integration training
- At least three years’ paediatric experience
- NHS or community OTs who want a smaller, settled caseload are welcome
The first 4 are essential. Experience in a school setting is a bonus, and the school will support you if this is your first move out of NHS or community practice.
