Paediatric Occupational Therapist - ASAP or January 2027 Start - Central London
£35,000 - £50,000 per year | Full-time | Permanent | ASAP or January 2027
Interviews are arranged ASAP - early applications are strongly recommended
What does a busy corridor feel like to a pupil who cannot filter out the noise? How much of your SI reasoning reaches a child’s actual school day?
Many pupils at this school are autistic or have social communication needs. Some cannot yet tell an adult when a space feels too much, so a sensory need can look like refusal or a bad day. A Paediatric Occupational Therapist with Sensory Integration training can read those signals. This school wants reading built into every lesson.
The Paediatric Occupational Therapist role
I am currently working with a specialist SEN school in Central London that is looking for a Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist with completed Sensory Integration training. This is a permanent, full-time post, starting ASAP or in January 2027. Pupils are primary and secondary aged.
You keep the same pupils on your caseload until their targets are met. SI is part of your working week, and you choose each intervention from your own clinical reasoning. Caseloads are small enough to make that realistic.
Working alongside the class team
Teachers and Therapists plan together and share classrooms. When a pupil leaves a sensory motor session, the class team carries your strategies into the next lesson. You see whether a movement break or a seating change works during a real lesson, then adjust it with the people who were in the room.
You receive regular clinical supervision and a generous CPD package, so your SI practice keeps developing after you join.
What you will do
- Assess pupils’ sensory and motor needs and set measurable OT targets
- Deliver 1:1 and small group sensory motor sessions
- Build life skills and independence with older pupils preparing for adulthood
- Help shape whole-school sensory strategies with Teachers and Therapists
- Supervise and train a Therapy Assistant
About you
- A genuine interest in Autism and sensory processing in school settings
- A degree in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC registration
- Completed Sensory Integration training (CLASI or equivalent)
- At least three years’ paediatric experience, including work with autistic children
- The right to work in the UK, as this role cannot offer visa sponsorship
Who would this role suit
This role suits an NHS or community Paediatric Occupational Therapist who wants to follow a child’s progress over months. It also suits an OT already working in a special school who wants SI to be a weekly part of the job. Supervising a Therapy Assistant gives you real leadership experience if Band 7 is your next step.
