Paediatric Occupational Therapist - SI Trained, Central London
ASAP or January 2027 start, permanent, full-time
£35,000 to £50,000 per year, Band 6 / Band 7
Interviews are arranged ASAP, so early applications are strongly recommended
When a pupil covers their ears and will not walk down a busy corridor, could you tell whether it is behaviour or sensory overload?
I am currently working with a specialist SEN school in Central London that needs a Paediatric Occupational Therapist with completed Sensory Integration (SI) training. Many pupils are autistic or have social communication needs. This is a permanent, full-time Band 6/Band 7 post for an OT who wants SI to be at the centre of their working week.
About the school and the pupils
Pupils are primary and secondary aged. Some cannot yet tell an adult when a space feels too much, so a sensory need can look like refusal or a bad day. The school wants a therapist who can read those signals and help every adult in the classroom read them too.
Sensory Integration training is essential
Completed SI training (CLASI or equivalent) is a requirement for this role. If you are still partway through your SI training, this post is not the right fit yet.
How you will work
You keep the same pupils on your caseload until their targets are met. Caseloads are small enough to make that realistic. SI is part of your week, and you choose each intervention from your own clinical reasoning.
Teachers and Therapists plan together and share classrooms. When a pupil leaves a sensory motor session, the class team carries your strategies into the next lesson. You see whether a movement break or a seating change works during a real lesson, then adjust it with the people who were in the room.
What you will do
- Assess pupils’ sensory and motor needs and set measurable OT targets
- Deliver 1:1 and small group sensory motor sessions using SI principles
- Build life skills and independence with older pupils preparing for adulthood
- Shape whole-school sensory strategies with Teachers and Therapists
- Supervise and train a Therapy Assistant
About you
- A genuine interest in autism and sensory processing in school settings
- Completed Sensory Integration training (CLASI or equivalent), essential
- A degree in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC registration
- At least three years’ paediatric experience, including work with autistic children
- The right to work in the UK, as this role cannot offer visa sponsorship
Who this role suits
This role suits an NHS or community Paediatric Occupational Therapist who wants to follow a child’s progress over months. It also suits an OT already working in a special school who wants SI to be a weekly part of the job.
Enhanced DBS and safer recruitment checks apply to this role.
