Part time Learning Support Assistant (SEND) – Midday & Classroom Support
London Borough of Havering
Hourly pay PAYE
Starting ASAP - Temp to Perm Opportunity
This is the kind of role people stay in once they find it.
A school-hours position (10:00am–2:00pm, Monday–Friday) where you’re part of a specialist SEND team, working directly with children who need consistency, patience, and someone who shows up for them every day.
On behalf of a specialist all-through SEND school in Havering, we are seeking a confident, calm and committed Learning Support Assistant to join a highly supportive team in a varied midday and classroom-based role.
This is a genuinely hands-on position where you will be part of the learning, the breakthroughs, and the challenging moments, not standing on the side-lines.
About the Role
You will support pupils across lunchtime routines and classroom learning, working closely with teachers and specialist staff in a structured, well-supported environment.
Your work will directly help pupils:
- access learning in a way that works for them
- build independence and routine
- regulate emotions and behaviour in a safe, consistent way
You will also support pupils 1:1 and in small groups, working with children and young people with a range of complex needs.
Why this role stands out
This is not a “watch and wait” lunchtime role, and it’s not a traditional full-day classroom post either.
It sits in a really unique space giving you:
- school-hours structure that fits around life outside of work
- real, meaningful contact time with pupils
- a supported entry point into SEND education
- a team that works together, not in isolation
You don’t need to arrive as an expert. You just need to be steady, reliable, and able to build trust with children who depend on consistency.
We are looking for someone who:
- Stays calm, even when situations are challenging
- Builds strong, trusting relationships with pupils over time
- Works well as part of a close, supportive team
- Is open to learning and developing within SEND
- Brings consistency, patience and a positive presence
The School Offers:
- Family-friendly hours: 10:00am–2:00pm, Monday to Friday allowing you do the school run!
- Term-time only working pattern
- A blended midday and classroom support role
- Full training and ongoing professional development
- Clear progression routes within SEND education
- A highly supportive specialist team environment
Apply
If you’re looking for work that fits around life but still feels meaningful, where you’re part of something consistent, human, and genuinely impactful, this is exactly that kind of role.
We would welcome your application.
