Part-Time SENCO – January 2027 – West/North West London

Competitive PAYE daily rate | 3 days per week | January 2027 start

Maternity cover | Long-term opportunity | Flexible working days | Non-teaching role | £235 - £332 PAYE per day

What if you could lead SEND across a primary school without carrying a full-time SENCO workload?

This part-time SENCO opportunity offers the chance to take ownership of SEND provision three days a week, supporting pupils with additional needs while working alongside a supportive senior leadership team.

Starting in January 2027, this maternity cover role would suit an experienced SENCO looking for greater flexibility, or a confident Assistant SENCO ready to take the next step in their career.

The School and the Children

This is a mainstream primary school in West/North West London with an established SEND provision supporting children with autism, speech and language needs, and cognition and learning difficulties.

Around 18–19 pupils across the school have EHCPs, alongside a small specialist resource base. You will play a key role in ensuring pupils receive the right support, staff feel confident in their practice, and children are included in school life.

The role is non-teaching, allowing you to focus on SEND leadership, provision and statutory responsibilities rather than managing a classroom timetable.

The school offers a supportive leadership team, on-site parking and flexibility over which three days you work, with consecutive days preferred. Other inclusion responsibilities will be shared across the leadership team during the maternity cover period.

Commutable from Harrow, Wembley, Brent and surrounding areas.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and coordinate SEND provision across the school, ensuring pupils receive appropriate support.

  • Oversee EHCP processes, annual reviews and statutory SEND responsibilities.

  • Support class teachers with adaptive teaching, inclusive practice and strategies to meet pupils' needs.

  • Work closely with the resource base team to promote progress, communication and inclusion.

  • Guide, advise and support teaching assistants and other staff working with pupils with SEND.

  • Build positive relationships with parents, carers, external professionals and the wider school community.

  • Contribute to whole-school inclusion planning alongside the senior leadership team.

About You

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), with experience coordinating or leading SEND provision.

  • Ideally, previous experience working as a SENCO or leading SEND across a primary school.

  • A sound understanding of the SEND Code of Practice, EHCPs and annual review processes.

  • Confidence supporting staff, advising on appropriate provision and working collaboratively with families.

  • A commitment to inclusive education and ensuring children with additional needs can thrive.

An appropriate SENCO qualification, or eligibility to undertake it within the statutory timeframe, will be important. A strong Assistant SENCO ready to step up will also be considered if they can demonstrate the knowledge and confidence needed to take on the responsibilities.
