About the Role
I are seeking an experienced, compassionate and well-organised Pastoral Lead, Family Liaison and Attendance Support professional to join a supportive and dedicated school in Barnet.
This is a key, relationship-based role supporting pupils, families and colleagues to ensure every child feels safe, understood and ready to learn. You will act as the main link between home and school, helping families to engage positively, supporting students with emotional or attendance difficulties, and working collaboratively to remove barriers to learning.
This position would suit someone with maturity, empathy and excellent communication skills, perhaps a parent or experienced pastoral professional who understands the challenges families can face and can offer calm, consistent guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, parents and carers.
- Act as the first point of contact for families regarding attendance, wellbeing and behaviour.
- Support families to access external services or community resources where appropriate.
- Monitor and promote good attendance and punctuality, addressing concerns sensitively.
- Provide one-to-one or small-group pastoral support for pupils with social, emotional or behavioural needs.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues, therapists and external professionals to ensure coordinated support.
- Serve as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, contributing to safeguarding plans and multi-agency meetings.
About You
We are looking for someone who brings warmth, empathy and sound judgement, someone who naturally puts others at ease while being confident to lead, support and challenge when necessary.
You will be:
- Empathetic, calm and an excellent listener.
- Confident in communicating with both parents and young people.
- Organised, reliable and professional in handling sensitive information.
- Resilient, patient and positive when faced with challenges.
- A strong team player who values collaboration and consistency.
Essential Experience:
- Experience working with children, young people or families in an educational, pastoral or community setting.
- A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage a varied workload effectively.
Desirable Experience:
- Knowledge of school attendance procedures.
- Experience liaising with external agencies or conducting home visits.
- Training in mentoring, counselling or emotional wellbeing support.
