Are you a passionate and experienced HLTA or Pastoral Lead with a strong understanding of Autism, SEMH, and complex emotional needs? Are you ready to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people who need it most?
We are working in partnership with a nurturing and inclusive specialist school in Richmond that supports students with Autism, SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health), and complex behaviours. The school is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Lead / HLTA to join their team full-time from September 2025, on a long-term basis.
The Role:
A Pastoral Lead plays a crucial role in supporting the emotional, social, and behavioural wellbeing of students, especially in settings like specialist schools for Autism, SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), and complex needs.
As a key member of the pastoral and support team, your role will focus on:

Providing emotional and behavioural support to students across the school

Supporting children in regulating their emotions and accessing learning

Working closely with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure each child’s individual needs are met

Delivering targeted interventions and support plans

Acting as a safe, consistent adult who students can trust and rely on

Offer 1:1 or small group support for those struggling with anxiety, trauma, or behavioural challenges.

Act as a consistent, trusted adult for students who may have experienced instability
You’ll Be:

Experienced working with children or young people with Autism, SEMH, or related needs

Calm, compassionate, and resilient in your approach
-
Able to manage challenging behaviours positively and proactively
-
Someone who values trauma-informed, relationship-based practice

A confident communicator and natural team player
Ideal Background:
-
HLTA status or experience in a similar senior support role
-
Previous experience in specialist or alternative provisions is highly desirable

A background in youth work, residential care, or mental health is a bonus
-
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
