Pastoral Assistant / Behaviour Mentor (SEND)

Sutton - South West London

£23,706 – £25,457 - £120 - £130 per day - PAYE

ASAP Start | Full-Time | Term Time Only (39 weeks incl. INSET)

Long term to Permanent or Straight Permanent 

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:15am – 3:45pm 

Are you passionate about supporting young people with SEND needs.

We are recruiting for a Pastoral Assistant within a dedicated SEND department, working with students aged 11–19. This role is ideal for candidates interested in careers in education, mental health, social work, or clinical psychology.

The Role:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEND and additional needs
  • Act as a key worker, supporting students’ academic progress and emotional wellbeing
  • Support positive behaviour management and engagement in learning
  • Assist with reintegration after suspension and pastoral interventions
  • Work closely with the SENDCo, pastoral team, and teaching staff
  • Deliver targeted interventions (literacy, numeracy, and life skills)
  • Support students in lessons and alternative learning environments
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and social development
  • Supervise students during break/lunch and school activities

Requirements:

  • Experience working with SEND, SEMH, and experience supporting the curriculum 
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Calm, resilient, and proactive approach
  • Ability to build positive relationships with young people
  • Team player with a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable students
