Pastoral Support Assistant

Camden, North London | £100–£120 per day PAYE | Full-time

Not every barrier to learning starts in the classroom.

For some pupils, difficulties with attendance, confidence, relationships or emotional wellbeing can make simply getting through the school day feel difficult.

Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting a Pastoral Support Assistant for an education setting in Camden.

You will work closely with pupils who need additional support beyond academic learning, helping them feel more settled, understood and able to participate successfully in school.

Your role

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 pastoral support

  • Building trusted but professional relationships

  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation

  • Helping pupils return to lessons following difficult situations

  • Encouraging positive attendance and engagement

  • Supporting pupils through transitions

  • Helping young people reflect on choices and incidents

  • Reinforcing clear boundaries

  • Working closely with teaching and pastoral colleagues

  • Communicating relevant information to the wider school team

Who would suit this role?

We would particularly like to hear from people with backgrounds in:

  • Pastoral support

  • SEMH

  • Behaviour mentoring

  • Youth work

  • Alternative provision

  • Mental health

  • Residential care

  • SEND

  • Children's services

Previous school experience would be beneficial, but strong transferable experience supporting young people will also be considered.

What are we looking for?

You will need to be:

  • Calm and approachable

  • Resilient

  • Consistent

  • Confident having difficult conversations

  • Able to maintain clear professional boundaries

  • Reliable and available full-time

Why consider pastoral support?

Sometimes progress is a pupil coming into school when they previously would not.

Sometimes it is returning to a lesson after a difficult morning, asking for help before becoming overwhelmed or beginning to trust an adult enough to talk.

Those changes may not appear on an academic assessment, but they can be the foundation that allows learning to happen.

Pay: £100–£120 per day PAYE, depending on experience.
