Hours: 8:30 - 4:30 - Monday - Friday (Term Time Only)

Are you passionate about sport, physical activity and making a real difference to young people’s lives?

We are looking for an enthusiastic, resilient and energetic PE Assistant to join a supportive Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), working with secondary-aged pupils who may present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD and behavioural challenges.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who understands that sport is about much more than physical activity. Through PE and team sports, you will help young people develop confidence, self-esteem, teamwork, communication, emotional regulation and positive relationships.

The Role

As a PE Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support the delivery of engaging and inclusive PE sessions. You will encourage pupils to participate, build positive relationships and help create an environment where students feel safe, valued and motivated to succeed.

You will support pupils who may find traditional education challenging, using your enthusiasm for sport to engage, motivate and inspire them.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Supporting the PE teacher with engaging and inclusive PE lessons and activities.
• Encouraging students to participate in a range of sports and physical activities.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with secondary-aged pupils.
• Supporting students who may demonstrate challenging or dysregulated behaviour.
• Using positive reinforcement and encouragement to promote engagement and achievement.
• Helping pupils develop teamwork, communication, resilience and self-confidence.
• Supporting students with SEMH needs and ADHD to remain focused and engaged.
• Acting as a positive role model and demonstrating appropriate behaviour and sportsmanship.
• Helping maintain a safe, structured and positive environment during PE sessions.
• Supporting pupils to understand boundaries, expectations and the importance of teamwork.
• Working as part of a wider pastoral and teaching team to ensure pupils receive consistent support.
• Encouraging students to recognise their achievements and develop a more positive attitude towards education and physical activity.

About You

• Understanding of, or willing to learn about, SEMH, ADHD and behavioural needs.
• Able to motivate pupils who may be reluctant to engage with education.
• A positive role model with excellent communication skills.
• Able to establish clear and consistent boundaries whilst remaining approachable and supportive.
• Adaptable and willing to think creatively to engage individual students.
• A strong team player who is committed to supporting the wider school community.

Previous experience working with young people in a school, PRU, youth setting, sports environment or similar role would be preferred. A passion for sport, the right attitude and a genuine desire to support young people are equally important.
