We are working with a specialist secondary school in Tower Hamlets that is looking for a PE Teaching Assistant / Sports Coach to join their team this September.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a background in sports coaching, PE, youth work or behaviour support who wants to inspire young people through physical activity. You'll be supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them build confidence, develop resilience and enjoy learning in a positive and supportive environment.
About the Role
Working alongside the PE Teacher, you'll support pupils both in lessons and through 1:1 and small group sessions. You'll use sport and physical activity to engage students, encourage teamwork and help them develop confidence, emotional regulation and important life skills.
Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting PE lessons, sports sessions and outdoor learning activities

Delivering 1:1 and small group sports interventions

Coaching pupils in a range of activities including football, basketball, fitness, athletics, boxing, team games and outdoor education

Adapting activities so every pupil can take part and succeed

Encouraging teamwork, resilience and positive behaviour through sport

Supporting pupils with emotional regulation using calm and consistent approaches

Supervising changing rooms, outdoor activities and transitions around the school

Maintaining sports equipment and ensuring activities are delivered safely

Working closely with teachers and the wider SEND team to support pupil progress
About You
We're looking for someone who:
-
Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, Autism, ADHD or behaviours that challenge

Has experience coaching or leading sports, fitness sessions or physical activities

Has worked in an SEMH school, PRU, Alternative Provision, youth work, care, mentoring or another role with transferable experience

Understands how sport and physical activity can support confidence, emotional regulation and wellbeing

Has knowledge of inclusive coaching or adapting activities to meet different needs

Is energetic, patient and resilient

Can remain calm and positive in challenging situations

Builds strong relationships and enjoys motivating young people

Has a genuine passion for sport and helping young people reach their potential

This specialist secondary school supports boys with SEMH needs, many of whom also have Autism or ADHD. The school has a nurturing, trauma-informed approach where positive relationships and consistency are at the heart of everything they do.
