Location: Havering
Pay: £90–£100 per day (PAYE)
Contract: Full-time | Term-time only | Long-term opportunity
“Every child has a voice, sometimes we just need to learn the right way to listen.”
In the heart of Barking and Dagenham, a specialist school is seeking a kind and committed PMLD Support Assistant to join their team. This is a truly unique setting where no two days are ever the same — a place dedicated to supporting children with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), often alongside complex medical and sensory needs.
Many pupils are non-verbal, wheelchair users, and need high levels of personal care and carefully tailored support. Some classrooms are calm, sensory-focused spaces; others are more physically and emotionally demanding. What remains constant is the school’s unwavering dedication to dignity, safety, and the wellbeing of every pupil.
Here, communication might look like a glance, a sound, or a subtle movement. Your role is to notice, respond with patience, and build meaningful connections through consistency and care.
What You’ll Do:
-
Provide one-to-one or small group support, following detailed education and care plans
-
Take part in sensory, therapeutic, and play-based learning activities
-
Use alternative communication methods such as PECS, visual timetables, and assistive technology
-
Support with personal care, including feeding, toileting, and hoisting (full training provided)
-
Offer emotional support, helping pupils feel safe, understood, and valued
What We’re Looking For:
-
Empathy, patience, and willingness to learn
-
Experience in care, support work, or healthcare is helpful but not essential
-
Calm, observant individuals who can stay composed under pressure
-
Team players who are reflective, adaptable, and passionate about inclusion
What You’ll Gain:
-
A welcoming school community with a shared sense of purpose
-
Supportive leadership and an experienced, collaborative staff team
-
Ongoing professional development and the chance to celebrate every achievement, big or small
Why Parker Smith Inclusion?
-
SEND specialists with a values-led, people-first approach
-
PAYE only — no umbrella companies or hidden deductions
-
Long-term placements with consistent support from a caring, knowledgeable team
-
Honest, relationship-driven recruitment that puts your wellbeing first
