Job Title: PMLD Support Assistant
Location: Havering
Pay: £90–£100 per day (PAYE)
Contract: Full-time | Term-time only | Long-term opportunity
“Every child communicates — we just need to learn how to listen.”
In the heart of Barking and Dagenham, a specialist school is looking for a compassionate and dedicated PMLD Support Assistant. This is a unique environment where no two days are alike — a place that supports pupils with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), often alongside complex medical and sensory needs.
Many pupils are non-verbal, use wheelchairs, and require high levels of personal care and consistent, tailored support. Classrooms vary: some are calm and sensory-based, while others are more physically and emotionally intensive. What never changes is the school's unwavering commitment to each pupil's dignity, safety, and wellbeing.
Here, communication may be a glance, a gesture, or a sound. Your role is to recognise it, respond with empathy, and build trust through your calm and consistent presence.
What You’ll Be Doing:
-
Providing one-to-one or small group support, following detailed education and care plans
-
Engaging in sensory, therapeutic, and play-based activities tailored to individual needs
-
Using alternative communication tools like PECS, visual timetables, and assistive technology
-
Supporting with personal care, including feeding, toileting, and hoisting (full training provided)
-
Helping pupils feel safe, seen, and supported — especially during moments of emotional difficulty
What We’re Looking For:
-
No prior SEND experience required — just empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to learn
-
Experience in care, support work, or healthcare is a plus
-
Emotionally mature and observant individuals who can stay composed in challenging situations
-
Team players who are reflective, adaptable, and passionate about inclusive education
What You’ll Find at This School:
-
A warm, welcoming school community with a clear sense of purpose
-
Supportive leadership and a collaborative, experienced team
-
A culture of professional growth and celebration of every success — big or small
Why Join Through Parker Smith Inclusion?
-
We’re SEND specialists with a people-first, values-driven approach
-
PAYE only — no umbrella companies or hidden deductions
-
Long-term placements with ongoing support from a knowledgeable, caring team
-
Honest, relationship-focused recruitment that puts your wellbeing first
