Job Title: PMLD Support Assistant
Location: Barking and Dagenham
Pay: £85–£100 per day (PAYE)
Contract: Full-time | Term-time only | Long-term opportunity
“True connection is often found in the quietest moments.”
In a calm, caring specialist school in the heart of Barking and Dagenham, learning doesn’t always follow a traditional path. It’s slower, more sensory, and deeply relational — designed for pupils with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), many of whom are non-verbal, use wheelchairs, and have complex medical and sensory needs.
Here, communication is nuanced — a flicker of the eyes, a soft sound, a slight movement. Your role is to notice, respond, and build trust through gentle, consistent care. This is not a fast-paced or high-pressure environment. It’s one where presence, patience, and emotional sensitivity are your most valuable tools.
What You’ll Be Doing:
-
Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups, following highly individualised education and care plans
-
Engaging in sensory-based, therapeutic activities that meet each child’s unique needs
-
Using communication strategies such as PECS, visual timetables, and assistive technology
-
Assisting with personal care needs — including feeding, toileting, and hoisting (full training provided)
-
Helping pupils feel emotionally safe and supported by being a calm, familiar presence
What We’re Looking For:
-
No previous experience needed — just empathy, emotional maturity, and a willingness to learn
-
Backgrounds in care, support work, or SEND are highly valued but not essential
-
Calm, observant, and compassionate individuals who want to make a real difference
-
Team players who are open to training, reflective practice, and working collaboratively
What You’ll Find at This School:
-
A warm, welcoming environment with a strong focus on staff wellbeing
-
Supportive leadership and a team that works together with care and respect
-
A culture of professional growth, where staff are given the tools and training to thrive
Why Join Through Parker Smith Inclusion?
-
We’re SEND specialists who focus on meaningful, values-led recruitment
-
PAYE only – no umbrella companies or hidden deductions
-
Long-term placements with full support from a knowledgeable, trusted team
-
An honest, relationship-focused approach centred on wellbeing and development
