PMLD Teacher – Harrow | Specialist SEND School
Salary: M1–UPS3 Outer London Pay Scale + SEN Allowance
Contract: Full-time
Start Date: ASAP
Make every moment of progress count
Teaching pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties is about much more than delivering lessons.
It is about understanding how each pupil communicates, recognising their individual strengths and creating opportunities for them to develop their independence, confidence and skills.
Parker Smith Inclusion is working with a specialist SEND school in Harrow that is looking for a dedicated PMLD Teacher to join its supportive team.
About the role
You will take responsibility for your own class, planning and delivering engaging, personalised learning that is adapted to the needs of every pupil.
Your teaching will extend beyond the traditional curriculum, with a strong focus on communication, personal development, independence and preparation for adulthood.
You will work closely with Teaching Assistants, therapists, families and other professionals to create a consistent approach that supports each pupil both inside and outside the classroom.
What you'll be doing
-
Plan and deliver personalised, differentiated lessons.
-
Adapt teaching strategies and activities to meet individual needs.
-
Monitor, assess and record pupil progress.
-
Lead and support your classroom team.
-
Create a calm, structured and engaging learning environment.
-
Promote communication, independence and social development.
-
Work collaboratively with parents, carers and specialist professionals.
-
Contribute to curriculum development and wider school initiatives.
-
Support pupils as they develop new skills and move through different stages of their education.
Who we're looking for
You don't need to have spent your entire career in specialist education.
The school would welcome applications from:
-
Experienced PMLD or SEND Teachers.
-
Mainstream Teachers looking to move into specialist education.
-
ECTs looking for a supportive environment to develop their practice.
-
Teachers with experience supporting pupils with complex learning needs.
Above all, we're looking for someone who is patient, adaptable and enthusiastic, with a genuine commitment to helping every pupil achieve their potential.
Why PMLD teaching?
Progress doesn't always look the same.
It could be developing a new communication method, becoming more independent, learning a new skill or simply becoming more confident in engaging with the people and environment around them.
As a PMLD Teacher, you'll play an important role in creating those opportunities and celebrating the progress that matters to each individual pupil.
You'll also be part of a wider multidisciplinary team, giving you the opportunity to learn from experienced SEND professionals and develop your specialist teaching practice.
