PMLD Support Assistant

Location: Camden, North London
Pay: £90–£100 per day (PAYE)
Full-time | Term-time only | Long-term opportunity

A specialist school in Camden is seeking a caring and dedicated PMLD Support Assistant to join their team. This is a highly rewarding role within a setting that supports pupils with PMLD, often alongside complex medical, physical, and sensory needs.

Many pupils are non-verbal, may use wheelchairs, and require a high level of personalised care and consistent support. Classrooms vary in pace and environment - some are calm and sensory-focused, while others are more physically or emotionally demanding. What remains constant is the school’s commitment to dignity, safety, and pupil wellbeing.

Communication may be expressed through eye contact, movement, sound, or behaviour. Your role is to notice these moments, respond with empathy, and build trust through calm, reliable support.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing one-to-one or small group support, following detailed education and care plans

  • Supporting pupils through sensory, therapeutic, and play-based activities

  • Using alternative and augmentative communication tools such as PECS, visual timetables, and assistive technology

  • Supporting with personal care, including feeding, toileting, and moving & handling (full training provided)

  • Helping pupils feel safe, regulated, and supported throughout the school day

What We’re Looking For

  • No previous SEND experience required - empathy, patience, and willingness to learn are essential

  • Experience in care, support work, or healthcare is beneficial but not essential

  • Emotionally resilient individuals who remain calm in challenging situations

  • Team players who are reflective, adaptable, and committed to inclusive education

What You’ll Find at This School

  • A welcoming, purpose-driven specialist setting

  • Supportive leadership and a collaborative, experienced staff team

  • Ongoing training and development

  • A culture that celebrates progress and values every achievement, big or small

Why Join Through Parker Smith Inclusion?

  • Specialist SEND recruiters with a people-first, values-led approach

  • PAYE only - no umbrella companies or hidden deductions

  • Long-term placements with consistent support and guidance

  • Honest, relationship-focused recruitment that prioritises your wellbeing
