8:30am–4:00pm | Full-time | Term-time
Supporting pupils with profound and multiple learning disabilities requires patience, attentiveness and the ability to recognise that progress can look very different for every young person.
Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting a PMLD Teaching Assistant in Barnet to support pupils with complex additional needs within a specialist SEND setting.
This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to help pupils access learning, communication and everyday school life in a way that is appropriate to their individual needs.
What will you be doing?
As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you may be responsible for:

Supporting pupils with profound and multiple learning disabilities

Providing individual and small-group classroom support
-
Helping pupils access sensory and highly differentiated learning activities

Supporting communication using individual strategies and resources
-
Encouraging independence wherever possible
-
Supporting pupils with personal care where required
-
Assisting with mobility and physical needs in line with training and individual plans

Observing and responding to pupils' communication, behaviour and wellbeing
-
Working alongside teachers, therapists and other SEND professionals

Following safeguarding, care and individual support plans consistently
What are we looking for?
Essential:

A patient, compassionate and reliable approach

Confidence supporting children or young people with significant additional needs

Strong communication and observation skills

Willingness to provide personal care where required

A commitment to safeguarding and maintaining pupils' dignity and independence
Desirable:
-
Previous experience supporting pupils with PMLD or complex needs
-
Experience within a special school or specialist SEND setting
-
Experience with sensory learning, communication aids, physical disabilities or personal care
-
Previous work as a PMLD Teaching Assistant, Complex Needs Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Support Worker or Learning Support Assistant
Relevant experience from health, care or support work may also transfer well into this type of role.
