PMLD Teaching Assistant – Camden
Camden, North London
£95–£110 per day, depending on experience
8:30am–4:00pm | Full-time | Term-time
A pupil does not need to communicate verbally for you to learn when they are comfortable, interested, anxious or trying to tell you something.
Good PMLD support is often about noticing those small signals and responding consistently.
Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting a PMLD Teaching Assistant in Camden to support children and young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and complex additional needs.
You will work as part of a wider team to help pupils access education, develop communication and participate as independently as possible in their school day.
Your responsibilities may include:
-
Supporting pupils with PMLD and complex learning needs
-
Delivering individualised support within the classroom
-
Helping pupils participate in sensory and differentiated learning
-
Supporting alternative and augmentative forms of communication
-
Assisting pupils with mobility and physical needs where appropriate
-
Providing personal care in a respectful and dignified manner where required
-
Supporting social interaction and independence
-
Following individual healthcare, support and education plans
-
Working closely with teachers and relevant professionals
-
Monitoring pupils' responses and sharing observations with the wider team

-
Confidence working with children or young people who need significant levels of support

A willingness to support personal care where this forms part of the role

What makes this work meaningful?
PMLD support requires consistency.
When you spend time understanding how a pupil communicates and what helps them feel secure, you can begin to recognise progress that someone unfamiliar with them might miss entirely.
For candidates considering careers in SEND teaching, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, psychology or social care, the experience can also provide valuable insight into multidisciplinary support.
Working with Parker Smith Inclusion
We specialise in SEND recruitment and will always discuss the needs of the pupils and expectations of a role before putting your profile forward.
Our approach is straightforward: honest advice, transparent communication and specialist support throughout your placement.
