Some young people need support in the classroom. Others need support preparing for what comes next.

Parker Smith Inclusion is working with a specialist post-16 SEND setting in Havering supporting young people aged 16+ with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, Speech, Language and Communication Needs and SEMH.

The focus isn't just on education. It's about helping young people build the skills and confidence they need for adult life.

That could mean learning how to use public transport, manage money, cook, shop, communicate with others, follow routines or prepare for work and supported living.

About the Role

As an Independence Support Mentor, you'll support young people both in the setting and out in the community.

Your day could look very different depending on the learner you're supporting.

You could be:

  • Supporting learners during lessons and practical activities.

  • Helping young people develop everyday independence skills.

  • Accompanying learners on public transport and community activities.

  • Supporting communication, decision making and problem solving.

  • Helping young people manage emotions and behaviour.

  • Encouraging learners to try things for themselves.

  • Building positive and consistent relationships.

  • Working alongside teachers, therapists and other staff.

The role isn't about doing everything for a young person.

It's about giving them the right support while helping them become more confident and independent.

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Patient, calm and consistent.

  • Good at building relationships with young people.

  • Comfortable supporting young people with SEND.

  • Able to adapt to different needs and situations.

  • Reliable and willing to learn.

  • Comfortable working both in a setting and out in the community.

Experience as a Teaching Assistant, LSA, SEND TA, Support Worker, Youth Worker, Mentor or Care Worker would be useful.

You don't need to have worked in a post-16 setting before. If you've got the right attitude and experience supporting young people, this could be a really good opportunity to develop your SEND experience.

Why Work with Parker Smith Inclusion?

  • Long-term opportunity with potential to go permanent

  • Specialist SEND recruitment agency
