About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Worker to join a specialist college in Tower Hamlets, supporting post-16 students with autism. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young adults as they develop essential life skills, independence, and employability pathways.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to students with autism
  • Support the development of life skills, including daily living and independent travel
  • Assist in promoting employability skills and engagement in vocational activities
  • Work with students with a range of needs, including sensory sensitivities, non-verbal communication, and dysregulated behaviour
  • Implement strategies to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Support with personal care where required, maintaining dignity and respect at all times
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, therapists, and other professionals to deliver consistent support

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience supporting young adults with autism, particularly in post-16 or similar settings
  • Strong understanding of autism, including sensory needs and communication differences
  • Experience supporting individuals with non-verbal communication and behaviours that challenge
  • A proactive and patient approach to promoting independence and life skills
  • Willingness and confidence to provide personal care
  • Background in or experience working with charities such as Mencap (desirable)
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
