A Post-16 Provision That Prepares Young People for Real Life

This outstanding Post-16 SEND provision in Havering is widely recognised for how thoughtfully and effectively it supports young adults as they transition into adulthood. Professionals who have completed trials here consistently highlight the calm atmosphere, purposeful structure, and the clear sense that everyone knows why they are there.

This is a setting where education goes far beyond the classroom.

Learning That Connects to the World Outside

The provision supports young people aged 16+ with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, and social or emotional differences. While academic learning is important, the real strength of this setting lies in how it prepares students to participate confidently in everyday life.

Young adults are supported to build independence through practical, meaningful experiences such as navigating their local area, managing money, shopping, planning journeys, and understanding how to stay safe and healthy. Learning is relevant, personalised, and rooted in helping students feel capable in the wider world.

For some learners, the focus is on developing communication, self-care, and independence. For others, it is about achieving recognised qualifications that open doors to further study. Every pathway is individual, carefully planned, and shaped around each young person’s strengths, interests, and long-term goals.

Your Role: Supporting Independence and Confidence

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in helping young adults apply their learning in real-life contexts. This is a highly relational position where you will:

  • Support learning both in the classroom and within the community

  • Help students practise everyday skills such as shopping, travel, and decision-making

  • Encourage communication, confidence, and self-advocacy

  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour

  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and specialist staff

Your presence will help young people feel secure enough to take steps they may never have felt able to take before.

Who This Role Suits

This role is ideal for someone who is calm, practical, and genuinely passionate about preparing young people for adulthood. You may have experience in SEND, care, youth work, or education. Most importantly, you understand that progress at Post-16 looks different for every learner and that independence is just as important as qualifications.

You will be joining a well-led, collaborative team who are deeply committed to getting outcomes right for their students.

Why This Provision Stands Out

  • Exceptionally well-run with consistently positive feedback from visiting professionals

  • Strong emphasis on real-world skills and community integration

  • Thoughtfully personalised learning pathways for every student

  • Close partnership working with families and professionals

  • Clear progression routes into further study, employment pathways, or supported living

  • Long-term stability with genuine temp-to-perm opportunity
