Post-16 SEND Learning Support Assistant
Location: Havering
Pay: £90 to £100 per day PAYE
Contract: Long term with temp to perm opportunity
A Structured and Supportive Post-16 Environment
We are working with a specialist Post-16 provision in Havering that supports young adults as they prepare for life after education. The setting is calm, purposeful, and carefully organised, with a strong focus on helping students develop the skills they need for greater independence.
Staff describe the provision as clear in its vision and consistent in its approach. Everyone works towards the same goal: building confidence, life skills, and meaningful progression for every learner.
Preparing Young Adults for the Real World
The provision supports students aged 16 and above with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language differences, and social or emotional needs. The curriculum combines academic learning with practical life skills, ensuring students are supported both personally and academically.
Learners take part in activities such as independent travel training, budgeting, shopping, cooking, planning routines, and developing communication skills. Some students work towards recognised qualifications, while others focus on independence and preparation for supported living or employment. Each pathway is personalised to reflect the individual’s strengths, interests, and future goals.
The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with young adults in both classroom sessions and community-based activities. This role is centred on building trust and encouraging independence through consistent, patient support.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting students during lessons and practical sessions
Accompanying learners into the community to practise everyday skills
Encouraging communication, confidence, and decision-making
Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
Working closely with teachers, therapists, and wider staff to ensure joined-up support
Your presence will help students feel secure enough to take steps towards greater independence.
Who We Are Looking For
This role would suit someone calm, practical, and genuinely committed to helping young people move into adulthood successfully. Experience in SEND, youth work, care, or education is valuable, but the right mindset and understanding of individual progress is key.
You will be joining a collaborative, supportive team that values long-term impact and professional growth.
