The role of a Learning Support Assistant within a SEN school is vital. You are an integral part of each student’s journey as they navigate a world that presents challenges for them at every step. Your patience, passion and perseverance will literally change lives for the better. This school provides you with the opportunity to make a real impact beyond education, helping facilitate the future of the students you support.

About the school:

The school is a specialist post-16 provision that supports young people with Autism and additional learning needs. It offers personalised learning programmes that focus on developing independence, confidence, and practical life skills. Alongside academic support, students take part in vocational training and work experience opportunities to help prepare them for employment or further education. The overall aim is to help learners build the skills they need to transition successfully into adult life.

The organisation offers personalised study programmes focused on:

  • Developing independence and employability skills
  • Vocational training in areas like horticulture and catering
  • Work experience, enrichment activities, and life skills training

About the role:

You will be responsible for supporting students across post-16 classes helping them to prepare for life after education. Besides assisting with their academic needs focusing on entry level qualifications, you will be given the opportunity to support them outside of the school setting with an emphasis on working in the community.

Who this role would suit:

If you are someone with professional or personal experience with special needs having supported children or young people and are looking to take your experience further beyond the classroom, this may be the role for you. You will play a pivotal role in the growth of students beyond their time in education providing support for them to embrace the next step in their life.
