Post-16 SEMH Teaching Assistant

8am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday (term time)
£100 per day PAYE
A social, emotional, mental health school are in need of an experienced teaching assistant to support their post-16 class, the students in this class have SLD, ASC and SEMH needs. You will be required to have 2 years experience in an SEMH/PRU school setting to be considered, post-16/college experience preferred.
This school caters for secondary aged pupils and has a therapeutic and holistic approach to their teaching, they are very student lead. The classes will be 5 students maximum, you will be supporting the class teacher and the students, monitoring behaviour, de-escalating, supporting with a modified curriculum and further life skills.
For this role you need to be resilient, patient, empathetic and understanding, these students could come from vulnerable backgrounds and require nurture and people that are reliable and committed to them.
Experience Required:
- 2 Years Experience within an SEMH/School Setting
- Proven experience supporting young adults with ASC/SEMH
- Fantastic communication skills
- Ability to build rapport with young vulnerable people
- Understanding of GCSE, Level 1 - 2 curriculum
- Able to de-escalate dysregulated behaviours
- Calm, approachable and empathetic
