Post-16 Teacher – Special School
Newham | Temp to Perm (after 100 days) | Full-Time | Start After February Half Term

We are working in partnership with a well-respected special school in Newham that is seeking a dedicated and resilient Post-16 Teacher to join their team after February half term. This is a temp-to-permanent opportunity, with the view to offering a permanent contract after 100 successful days.

The role involves teaching a small Post-16 class of 7 students with Autism (ASC). Pupils are non-verbal, semi-formal learners, and may present with challenging behaviours. The class is well supported, with four experienced Teaching Assistants working alongside the Teacher to ensure a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.

The Role

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to semi-formal learners
  • Support students with Autism who are non-verbal and require a highly structured approach
  • Manage and respond confidently to challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies
  • Work collaboratively with a strong team of 4 TAs, therapists, and senior staff
  • Support students’ communication, independence, and life skills in preparation for adulthood
  • Create a calm, consistent, and nurturing classroom environment

The Ideal Candidate

  • A qualified Teacher (QTS preferred, but strong experience considered)
  • Experience working with Autism, non-verbal learners, and/or Post-16 SEND pupils is highly desirable
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour in a positive and proactive way
  • Patient, resilient, and passionate about inclusive and specialist education
  • A strong team player who can lead and work closely with support staff
  • Committed to long-term progression, with the aim of moving into a permanent role
