Premises and Operations Manager
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and highly organised Premises and Operations Manager to oversee the safe, efficient, and professional day-to-day operation of our educational environment.
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the school premises, facilities, and operational systems are maintained to the highest standards. The successful candidate will lead on health and safety, statutory compliance, facilities management, maintenance, operational planning, ICT coordination, and site readiness, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and effective environment for pupils, staff, visitors, and the wider school community.
Key Responsibilities
As Premises and Operations Manager, you will:
- Oversee the safe, efficient, and professional operational management of the school site and facilities.
- Lead all aspects of health and safety, statutory compliance, fire safety, emergency planning, operational risk management, and environmental standards.
- Ensure classrooms, specialist teaching spaces, workshops, offices, communal areas, outdoor spaces, equipment, and facilities remain safe, organised, well maintained, and fully operational.
- Manage planned and reactive maintenance programmes, servicing schedules, contractor management, asset registers, and premises improvement projects.
- Coordinate ICT infrastructure and operational systems in partnership with external service providers.
- Oversee operational logistics to support the smooth running of teaching, learning, events, community use, and wider school activities.
- Develop and maintain effective operational procedures, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and continuous improvement across the organisation.
- Monitor site security, access arrangements, building maintenance, utilities, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team and all staff to ensure the school operates safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with relevant legislation.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will:
- Have experience in premises, facilities, or operational management, ideally within an educational, public sector, or commercial environment.
- Possess a strong understanding of health and safety legislation, statutory compliance, and risk management.
- Have experience managing contractors, maintenance programmes, and building services.
- Demonstrate excellent organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Be confident managing multiple priorities while maintaining high standards of service delivery.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships across the organisation.
- Be proactive, adaptable, and committed to maintaining a safe, professional, and welcoming environment.
