Autism Advisory Team Assistant – Primary

Support autistic and neurodivergent children to thrive

Location: Barnet – Primary Schools across the borough
Contract: Full time / Term time - flexible to the individual. Up to 2 days WFH/Remote per week
Salary: £32,061 - £33,699 FTE

As an Autism Advisory Team Assistant, you’ll work closely with children in primary schools to help them flourish, build confidence, and feel secure and included in their learning environment. You’ll also support and coach school staff to put in place strategies that make a meaningful difference for autistic and neurodivergent children.

This role involves regular in-person visits to primary schools across Barnet, giving you a rewarding and varied week.

What you’ll be doing

  • Support autistic and neurodivergent pupils to access learning and school life.
  • Assist in creating and implementing individual support plans.
  • Share and model strategies with teachers and support staff to embed best practice.
  • Develop resources such as visual timetables, transition supports, and sensory-friendly tools.
  • Promote inclusion, independence, and communication for pupils.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with families, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • Contribute to monitoring progress, reviewing interventions, and providing feedback.

Who we’re looking for

  • Experience working with autistic and/or neurodivergent children.
  • Knowledge of SEND provision in a primary setting.
  • Confidence using ICT to create resources and support learning.
  • Strong teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with staff, parents, and professionals.
  • Patience, empathy, and a flexible, solution-focused approach.
  • Training or understanding of approaches that support young autistic learners.
