Primary Learning Mentor / Attendance Officer
Salary: £130 - £150 per day
Hours: 8:30 - 3:30 Monday - Friday (term time only)
Contract: 1 Year Fixed Term contract - with view to be permanent

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and committed Learning Mentor / Attendance Officer to join our school community.
This is a varied and rewarding role supporting pupils to overcome barriers to learning, improve their attendance and punctuality, and develop their confidence, wellbeing and engagement in school. You will need to be nurturing with a firm but fair approach, you will be responsible for the reflection room where students may be taken to reflect on their decisions, you'll also be responsible for morning attendance which would include calls home to families and sometimes meeting face to face to potentially address hard conversations around the reasons why it's so important for thier children to be attending school.
This role will primarly be pastoral support but you will be going into the lessons in the morning and afternoons to monitor the students learning and wellbeing and being vigilant to any changes in behaviour that could have deeper meaning.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring and pastoral support.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, parents/carers and staff.
- Support pupils with barriers to learning, behaviour, social development and emotional wellbeing.
- Work with teachers to identify pupils requiring additional support and develop appropriate action plans.
- Support pupils with SEND, EAL and other additional needs.
- Monitor daily attendance and punctuality and follow up unexplained absence promptly.
- Analyse attendance data to identify patterns, persistent absence and pupils requiring targeted support.
- Contact parents/carers regarding attendance concerns and lead or support attendance meetings.
- Set attendance improvement targets and work collaboratively with families to achieve them.
- Support formal attendance procedures and referrals in line with statutory guidance and school procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to attendance, pastoral and pupil progress reports.
- Support transition arrangements for pupils joining the school or moving to secondary education.
- Work with external agencies and attend relevant multi-agency meetings where required.
- Support safeguarding, pupil wellbeing and first aid duties as appropriate.
- Supervise pupils during break and lunchtime and support extracurricular activities and clubs.
- Participate in meetings, training, appraisal and professional development.

Safeguarding
Safeguarding is central to this role. The successful candidate will be expected to comply with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), Prevent guidance, safeguarding and child protection procedures, and the staff code of conduct.
