Primary SEND Support Mentor (ARP)
Location: Havering
Pay: £95 to £100 per day PAYE
Contract: Full time | Long term | Temp to Perm
Start Date: September 2026
We are working with a welcoming mainstream primary school in Havering with an established Additional Resource Provision (ARP) supporting pupils with autism and associated learning needs.
This is a long term role where you’ll work closely with the same pupils and become part of a supportive team. There is also the opportunity for the role to become permanent for the right person.
The ARP provides pupils with a structured and supportive environment, with a focus on communication, independence, emotional regulation and helping each child access their learning.
The role
You’ll provide 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils to engage with learning and manage the demands of the school day.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Supporting pupils with their learning, communication and independence
• Helping pupils regulate their emotions and manage challenging situations
• Using strategies to support sensory, communication and behavioural needs
• Supporting with personal care and daily routines where required
• Providing consistent boundaries and positive behaviour support
• Helping pupils during transitions, break times and structured activities
• Working closely with teachers, the SENDCO and other support staff
About you
We’re looking for someone who is:
• Calm, patient and confident
• Experienced in supporting children with SEND
• Comfortable supporting pupils with complex needs
• Able to manage challenging behaviour in a consistent and positive way
• Comfortable with personal care responsibilities where required
• Good at building positive relationships with children
• Reliable and able to commit to a long term role
Experience in a primary school or ARP would be useful, but relevant experience from other settings will also be considered.
The role could suit someone who
Has worked as a Teaching Assistant, SEND Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, Behaviour Mentor or in another role supporting children or young people with additional needs.
