Experienced SEND Teacher – Tower Hamlets
Location: Tower Hamlets, East London
Start Date: January - 1 Year Maternity
Contract: Full-time
Setting: Mainstream Primary School with SEND provision
Are you an experienced teacher who is passionate about making education genuinely accessible to children with SEND?
Parker Smith Inclusion is working with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Tower Hamlets that is looking for an experienced SEND Teacher to join their team.
This is a school that places a strong emphasis on understanding children as individuals and ensuring that pupils with additional needs are given the right support to access learning, develop their confidence and reach their potential.
The school takes a person-centred approach to SEND, working closely with children, families and professionals to understand individual needs and remove barriers to learning.
We are looking for an experienced teacher with a strong understanding of SEND who can confidently adapt their teaching, build positive relationships and ensure that pupils with additional needs are fully included within school life.
About the Role
As a SEND Teacher, you will work closely with pupils who have a range of additional needs, supporting them to access the curriculum and make meaningful progress.
You will need to be confident recognising that one approach will not work for every child and be able to adapt your teaching, communication and expectations around individual needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering engaging and appropriately differentiated lessons.
- Adapting the curriculum to meet a range of SEND needs.
- Supporting pupils with EHCPs and ensuring provision reflects their individual outcomes.
- Developing positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Identifying barriers to learning and implementing appropriate strategies.
- Working alongside Teaching Assistants to ensure consistent support.
- Monitoring progress and adapting teaching accordingly.
- Contributing to SEND reviews and EHCP processes.
- Working collaboratively with the SENCo, families and external professionals.
- Supporting pupils' communication, independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
- Ensuring pupils with SEND are fully included in the wider life of the school.
- Creating a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate
We are specifically looking for a teacher who already has strong experience working with children with SEND.
You will ideally have experience supporting pupils with a combination of needs and be confident adapting your practice accordingly.
We're looking for someone who is:
- An experienced teacher with a genuine passion for SEND.
- Confident differentiating and adapting learning.
- Able to identify and respond to individual barriers to learning.
- Patient, empathetic and emotionally intelligent.
- A strong communicator who can build relationships with pupils and families.
- Confident working collaboratively with the SENCo and wider multidisciplinary team.
- Organised and able to manage SEND-related documentation and responsibilities.
- Reflective and open to developing their practice.
- Able to advocate for pupils while maintaining high expectations.
- Committed to ensuring SEND pupils are included rather than simply supported from the sidelines.
Experience supporting children with Autism, speech and language needs, SEMH, learning difficulties and EHCPs would be highly beneficial.
What Matters Most
We're not looking for someone who simply has SEND experience on their CV.
We're looking for a teacher who genuinely understands that SEND teaching is about getting to know the child first.
You will need to be able to ask:
What is preventing this child from accessing the learning?
What can I change?
How can I communicate this differently?
What will help this child feel successful?
The successful candidate will have the patience to try different approaches, the experience to recognise when something isn't working and the confidence to adapt their practice.
Why Parker Smith Inclusion?
At Parker Smith Inclusion, SEND is all we do.
We take the time to understand both our schools and our candidates, because we believe the right placement is about much more than simply matching a CV to a vacancy.
Whether you're looking for a new challenge, wanting to develop your SEND expertise or looking for a school where your approach to inclusion will genuinely be valued, we'd love to speak with you.
Immediate and January starts available.
