We are recruiting a compassionate and committed Primary SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary school supporting pupils with Autism (ASC), non-verbal communication and complex needs. This is a long-term role offering stability, structure and the opportunity to make a genuine difference in children’s daily lives.

This role goes beyond general classroom support. You will play a key part in helping pupils feel safe, regulated and ready to engage with learning through predictable routines, clear communication and emotionally attuned support.

The Role

As a Primary SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with Autism and complex SEN

  • Support communication through visual timetables, structured routines and AAC strategies

  • Assist pupils with sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day

  • Work closely with teachers and the SEN team to follow EHCPs and individual support plans

  • Support learning at a developmentally appropriate pace, celebrating small but meaningful progress

  • Respond to dysregulation using calm, consistent and trauma-informed approaches

  • Remain observant, proactive and emotionally present throughout the school day

  • Understands that behaviour is communication

  • Has knowledge of sensory needs and regulation strategies, or a strong willingness to learn

  • Values consistency, routine and long-term impact

  • Is reliable, reflective and committed to building trusting relationships

The School

You will be joining a nurturing primary special school with a strong focus on Autism and complex SEN. The school prioritises emotional wellbeing, structured routines and clear communication approaches. Staff work collaboratively to ensure pupils feel safe, understood and supported every day.

Pay, Support and Benefits

  • £90–£100 per day (PAYE only – no umbrella companies)

  • Long-term role providing consistency for pupils

  • Ongoing support from a specialist SEND recruitment consultancy

  • A rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child’s education and wellbeing

Why This Role Matters

As a Primary SEND Teaching Assistant, you will help children feel secure enough to engage with learning, communication and relationships. Progress may be gradual, but it is real — and your presence will make a lasting impact.
