Location: Chelmsford, Essex
Setting: Specialist SEMH School
Contract: Permanent Opportunities Available for January
Are you a Primary Teacher looking for a role where you can teach creatively, build meaningful relationships and make a lasting difference to children's lives?
Teaching is about so much more than delivering lessons. It's about helping children develop confidence, build relationships and discover what they're capable of. In a specialist SEMH setting, that impact can be even more profound.
Parker Smith Inclusion is working in partnership with an exceptional, purpose-built specialist school in Chelmsford to connect passionate teachers with an opportunity to make a genuine difference.
This school recognises that great teaching starts with understanding the individual child. You'll have the autonomy to shape your classroom, adapt your curriculum and develop approaches that work for your pupils, supported by experienced Teaching Assistants and a leadership team committed to helping you succeed.
Whether you're an experienced Primary Teacher looking for a new challenge, an ECT ready to take your first steps into specialist education, or a mainstream teacher considering a move into SEND, this could be an opportunity to take your career in a rewarding new direction.
The School
This purpose-built specialist SEMH school has been designed to create an environment where children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
With bright, spacious facilities, extensive resources and a bespoke environment that enhances the curriculum, the school offers a setting where teachers can think creatively about how they engage pupils and support their development.
Small class sizes are central to the school's approach, allowing teachers to build stronger relationships, understand individual needs and provide more personalised learning experiences. Classes are organised by ability to encourage shared progress and ensure pupils receive appropriate levels of challenge and support.
Although the school continues to grow, its commitment to small groups and individualised education remains at the heart of its model.
The teaching team works across both primary and secondary phases, creating a collaborative culture where colleagues share ideas, celebrate progress and learn from one another. Teaching Assistants provide excellent classroom support, while the Senior Leadership Team offers guidance and encouragement across all aspects of school life.
The Role
As a Primary Teacher, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of your classroom and create a learning environment that reflects the needs, interests and abilities of your pupils.
You'll be encouraged to think beyond traditional teaching methods, adapting lessons and approaches to help children engage with learning at their own pace.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that meet pupils' individual needs.
- Creating a structured, safe and supportive classroom where children feel confident to participate.
- Adapting the curriculum to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.
- Building positive relationships with pupils, helping them develop trust, resilience and confidence.
- Working closely with Teaching Assistants to deliver consistent, effective classroom support.
- Using appropriate behaviour strategies to help pupils manage emotions and overcome barriers to learning.
- Monitoring progress and recognising achievements across both academic and personal development.
- Collaborating with colleagues, therapists and the wider school team to provide a holistic approach to education.
- Contributing to a positive school culture where relationships, consistency and inclusion are valued.
You'll have the freedom to develop your teaching practice while benefiting from a supportive team that understands the challenges and rewards of specialist education.
Leadership That Invests in You
One of the school's biggest strengths is its commitment to staff development.
The Headteacher understands that teachers need the right support, guidance and opportunities to develop their confidence. A structured CPD programme is in place to help staff strengthen their skills, explore new approaches and progress within their careers.
As the school continues to expand, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to its development and help shape the culture, values and learning experiences that define the provision.
For teachers moving from mainstream education, this support is particularly valuable. You'll be guided through specialist SEND training, curriculum adaptation and approaches to supporting pupils with SEMH needs.
ECTs are also encouraged to apply, with support available to help them develop their teaching practice within a specialist environment.
Who Would Suit This Role?
We're keen to hear from Primary Teachers who are passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.
You could be:
- An experienced Primary Teacher looking for a more personalised approach to education.
- A mainstream teacher interested in transitioning into specialist SEND.
- An Early Career Teacher looking for a supportive environment in which to develop.
- A teacher with existing SEMH experience seeking a new challenge.
- An educator who values relationship-building, creativity and the opportunity to make a difference beyond academic results.
You'll need a recognised teaching qualification, with QTS or the appropriate qualification for the role, alongside a genuine interest in supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.
Most importantly, you'll understand that progress doesn't look the same for every child. You'll be patient, adaptable and motivated by helping pupils achieve things they may once have thought impossible.
Location and Accessibility
Based in Chelmsford, the school is easily accessible from the surrounding areas, with on-site parking available to make commuting straightforward.
