Location: Epping Forest, Essex
Role: Qualified Primary Teacher
Setting: Specialist SEMH School

Are you a Qualified Primary Teacher who wants to make a real difference to the lives of children who need additional support to thrive?

At Parker Smith Inclusion, we believe every child deserves to feel safe, understood and supported in their education. We're working in partnership with a welcoming specialist SEMH school in Epping Forest that is looking for a passionate and dedicated Primary Teacher to join its team.

This is an opportunity to work with a small class of primary-aged pupils who may experience social, emotional and mental health challenges that affect their ability to access learning in a mainstream environment.

You'll be supported by two dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants, allowing you to build meaningful relationships with pupils and create a structured, nurturing classroom where children can develop confidence, manage their emotions and make progress at their own pace.

The school has a welcoming, family-like atmosphere, with a Headteacher who genuinely values staff wellbeing and makes time to ensure everyone feels supported. With a range of facilities, resources and opportunities for professional development, it's an excellent setting for a teacher looking to develop their career within specialist SEND education.

The Role

As a Primary Teacher within this specialist SEMH school, you'll take responsibility for creating an engaging, structured and supportive learning environment for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading a small class of primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that reflect pupils' individual abilities and learning needs.
  • Creating a safe, consistent and predictable classroom environment where pupils feel secure and ready to learn.
  • Working closely with two dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to provide personalised classroom support.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and helping them develop emotional regulation and resilience.
  • Using positive behaviour strategies to support pupils through challenging situations and encourage constructive choices.
  • Adapting teaching approaches to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and re-engage with education.
  • Supporting the development of communication, social skills, independence and confidence.
  • Monitoring progress and celebrating achievements, both academically and personally.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and school leadership to provide consistent, individualised support.
  • Taking part in continued professional development to strengthen your knowledge and teaching practice within specialist education.

What Makes This School Special?

Finding the right school is about more than the role itself. It's about the people around you, the support available and the opportunity to make a genuine impact.

This school offers:

  • Small class sizes that allow you to understand pupils' individual needs and build strong relationships.
  • Two dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to support learning, engagement and emotional wellbeing.
  • A nurturing, family-like environment where staff are valued and supported.
  • Excellent resources and facilities to help you deliver engaging and accessible learning experiences.
  • Supportive leadership with a Headteacher who takes an active interest in staff wellbeing.
  • Continued professional development to help you grow in your role and develop your specialist knowledge.
  • The opportunity to make a lasting difference to children who may have struggled to find success in traditional educational settings.

About You

We're looking for a teacher who is passionate about inclusive education and understands that behaviour can communicate unmet needs, frustration or difficulties with emotional regulation.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience teaching at primary level.
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour or social and emotional difficulties.
  • An understanding of how to adapt lessons and teaching approaches to meet different learning needs.
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach to managing challenging situations.
  • The ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.
  • A flexible, creative approach to teaching and engaging pupils who may have experienced difficulties in education.
  • A genuine commitment to helping children develop confidence, resilience and a positive relationship with learning.

Experience within a specialist SEMH setting would be beneficial, but we're particularly interested in teachers who have the right attitude, a willingness to learn and a genuine passion for supporting young people.

Most importantly, you'll understand that progress isn't always measured by academic results alone. Sometimes, it's a pupil learning to manage their emotions, rebuilding trust with an adult or finding the confidence to try again.
