PRU Teacher - Primary

Hackney

Pupil Referral Unit

Teacher Pay Scale Inner London

Are you looking for a new, rewarding but challenging role supporting young people who thrive in smaller, more nurturing learning environments?

We are working with a Pupil Referral Unit in Hackney, who are looking for a dedicated and compassionate PRU Teacher to join a supportive team within a primary PRU. The school supports students from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 5 who are unable to access mainstream education. Some pupils attend on short-term placements before returning to mainstream schools, while others recieve a longer-term support to prepare for further education or employment.

The school prides itself on creating a safe, therapeutic and highly supportive environment where both staff and students feel valued. You will be joining a passionate and collaborative team committed to helping every child reach their full potential.

What the school is looking for:

  • Experience supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

  • Strong skills in emotional regulation, positive behaviour management, and de-escalation strategies

  • The ability to be a positive role model, promoting trust, consistency, and communication

  • Understanding of trauma-informed and attachment-aware practices

  • Experience working with students who may have sensory processing or social communication needs

  • The ability to build strong, meaningful relationships with vulnerable young people

What you can expect from this PRU Teacher role:

  • A supportive, like-minded team dedicated to helping students achieve and grow

  • Opportunities to work with multi-disciplinary therapy teams

  • Extensive specialist SEMH training and continuous professional development

  • Experience supporting disengaged learners and those with a variety of SEND needs

  • The chance to make a real difference in the lives of young people

Requirements:

  • QTS or QTLS (or equivalent teaching qualification)

  • Experience supporting or teaching students with additional needs in either mainstream or SEND settings

  • A patient, empathetic, and holistic approach to teaching

  • Experience in SEMH settings is desirable, but we also welcome applications from teachers keen to take their first step into SEND education

If you’re passionate about helping young people re-engage with education and want to be part of a warm, inclusive school community, we’d love to hear from you.
