We're working with an exceptional specialist secondary school in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to recruit an experienced and passionate PSHE Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team from September.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced HLTA, ELSA, Pastoral Practitioner, Behaviour Mentor or Youth Worker who is passionate about delivering meaningful learning that prepares young people for life beyond the classroom.
The school is an all-boys specialist secondary setting supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Through a trauma-informed, relationship-centred approach, the school empowers young people to build confidence, regulate emotions, develop healthy relationships and achieve positive futures.
Conveniently located in Tower Hamlets, the school has excellent transport links via the District Line, DLR and Elizabeth Line, making it easily accessible from across London.
The Role
As the PSHE HLTA, you'll play a leading role in delivering engaging, trauma-informed PSHE, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Life Skills lessons across the school.
Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams and safeguarding leads, you'll independently plan and deliver learning that helps students develop emotional literacy, resilience, healthy relationships and practical life skills.
You'll also lead targeted interventions, provide classroom cover when required and become a trusted adult who supports young people to navigate the challenges they face both inside and outside school.

Your Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver and evaluate engaging PSHE, RSE and Life Skills lessons tailored to students with SEMH needs.
- Deliver whole-class teaching, small-group interventions and 1:1 support across the school.
- Provide high-quality classroom cover while maintaining a calm, structured and nurturing learning environment.
- Deliver lessons covering emotional wellbeing, healthy relationships, consent, online safety, financial literacy, independent living skills, careers education and risk awareness.
- Design creative, accessible resources that support students with varying cognitive, emotional and communication needs.
- Lead targeted interventions focusing on emotional regulation, self-esteem, social skills, anger management and resilience.
- Facilitate restorative conversations following conflict or behavioural incidents, promoting reflection and positive relationships.
- Build trusted, consistent relationships with young people through empathy, patience and clear boundaries.
- Work collaboratively with safeguarding, pastoral and welfare teams to support students' EHCP outcomes and wellbeing plans.
- Record safeguarding concerns accurately and respond appropriately to sensitive disclosures in line with school policies.
We're Looking For Someone Who
- Has substantial experience supporting young people with SEMH, trauma, Autism, ADHD or challenging behaviour.
- Has experience planning and delivering learning independently, ideally within PSHE, RSE or Life Skills.
- Has worked within an SEMH school, PRU, Alternative Provision or similar specialist setting.
- Holds ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) training or has equivalent experience supporting emotional wellbeing.
- Has a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, attachment theory and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
- Understands statutory PSHE and RSE guidance and is confident delivering sensitive topics professionally.
- Has knowledge of safeguarding risks affecting young people, including online safety, exploitation and contextual safeguarding.
- Is calm, resilient and emotionally intelligent, with excellent communication and active listening skills.
- Can confidently build positive relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
- Is passionate about preparing young people for adulthood and helping them develop the skills to succeed in life.
