Psychology Graduate - SEND Teaching Assistant | Barnet
Barnet, North London
£95–£110 per day, depending on experience
Full-time | Long-term
I am looking for a Psychology Graduate to work full-time within a SEND setting in Barnet.
This role would particularly suit someone who wants to build practical experience with children or young people before progressing into areas such as educational psychology, clinical psychology, therapy, mental health or specialist education.
Although a psychology degree is important, I am ideally looking for someone who also has some previous experience supporting children, young people or individuals with additional needs.
That experience could come from a school, care setting, youth work, mentoring, volunteering or similar.
The role
You will support pupils with additional needs across the school day and gain practical experience of how SEND affects learning, communication, behaviour and emotional regulation.
Responsibilities may include:
-
Providing 1:1 and small-group support
-
Supporting communication and interaction
-
Helping pupils remain engaged with learning
-
Supporting emotional regulation
-
Building positive and professional relationships
-
Helping pupils understand routines and transitions
-
Encouraging independence
-
Working closely with teachers and SEND professionals
-
Observing and recording pupil progress
What are we looking for?
Essential:
-
Psychology degree
-
Previous experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals
-
A genuine interest in SEND
-
Strong communication and observation skills
-
A calm and professional approach
-
Reliability and consistency
Desirable:
-
Previous school experience
-
Autism or SEMH experience
-
Support work experience
-
Mentoring or youth work
-
Experience supporting communication or learning needs
Why consider this role?
This is a good opportunity to move beyond theoretical knowledge and develop direct experience of working with SEND pupils.
You will see how communication, regulation, learning and behaviour interact in real-life situations and gain experience that can be highly relevant to future postgraduate training.
