About the School
A specialist school in South West London supports pupils aged 4 to 19 with severe and complex learning difficulties. The school operates as a specialist education setting, with small classes and a high number of adults supporting each group. Every pupil holds an EHCP, and the environment is built around highly individualised, personalised support rather than a fixed curriculum structure.
About the Pupils
Pupils are supported for a wide range of needs, including SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties), PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties), and Autism/ASC. Many pupils are non-verbal or use very limited speech, and communicate through AAC and other approaches built around them as individuals. Curiosity about how children develop and communicate differently matters more here than prior experience.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will support communication, personal care, and sensory needs throughout the school day, working closely alongside SEN Teachers and therapists. Willingness to support with hydrotherapy sessions is part of the role. Sessions are hands-on and highly individual, giving direct exposure to complex needs work at a level most graduate roles do not offer.
Who This Suits
A psychology degree, finished or nearly finished, is what this role is built for. Drama graduates and those with transferable backgrounds in care, support work, or learning mentoring are also welcome to apply. Direct SEND experience is not required. This role is a genuine route for graduates considering Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or a related career, and it provides the kind of grounded, practical experience those postgraduate routes look for.
