Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant - SEND

Camden, North London | £95–£110 per day | Full-time

Finished your Psychology degree and looking for experience that will actually help you decide where you want your career to go?

Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist SEND setting in Camden.

This is a full-time role supporting children and young people with additional needs while gaining practical experience in areas such as communication, emotional regulation, behaviour, learning and child development.

It could be particularly valuable if you are considering a future career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, SEND teaching or child and adolescent mental health.

What will you be doing?

You will become an active member of the classroom team and may support pupils with:

  • Autism and neurodiversity

  • Communication and interaction

  • Emotional regulation

  • Social development

  • Attention and engagement

  • Behaviour as communication

  • Individualised learning

  • Building confidence and independence

  • Targeted interventions under the guidance of experienced staff

This is not an observation placement. You will be expected to build relationships with pupils, contribute to their support and remain consistent throughout the school day.

Who are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Psychology degree or closely related qualification

  • Experience working with children or young people

  • Genuine interest in SEND and child development

  • Patience, reliability and strong communication skills

  • Full-time availability

Relevant experience could include:

  • Schools

  • Tutoring

  • Mentoring

  • Youth work

  • Care

  • Volunteering

  • Holiday clubs

  • Mental health or support services

Why consider this role?

A Psychology degree gives you the theory.

Working directly with pupils gives you the context.

You will begin to understand how additional needs affect learning, relationships, communication and behaviour in real situations rather than case studies.

For someone planning further professional training, that experience can be extremely valuable.

Pay: £95–£110 per day, depending on experience.
