Unqualified SEN Teacher – Autism, ADHD & SEMH
September 2025 Start | Long-Term to Permanent
£130 - £170 per day PAYE (based on experience)
Secondary Phase | Richmond Upon Thames
Are you an experienced unqualified teacher ready to advance your career?
We’re collaborating with a great specialist school in the Richmond borough. This school is part of a well-respected trust known for its caring and therapeutic approach. It supports secondary-aged students with Autism, ADHD, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many of the students have faced trauma or exclusion, and all have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
They are now seeking an unqualified teacher who is prepared to step up. You should be confident leading lessons, calm under pressure, and genuinely dedicated to helping young people feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
You do not need QTS yet, but you should have:
- Strong classroom experience with young people who have Autism, SEMH, and/or complex needs
- Confidence in planning and delivering structured lessons or activities
- Excellent behaviour management based on consistency and empathy
- A long-term mindset, making this ideal for someone aiming for teacher training or QTS
The role involves:
- Teaching small secondary classes of students with a mix of academic and emotional needs
- Delivering lessons across a wide curriculum with support and mentoring from senior staff
- Working closely with the school’s therapeutic and pastoral team
- Establishing consistent routines and relationships with students who thrive on trust and safety
- Using trauma-informed, relational methods to manage behaviour
This would suit someone who:
- Has experience as a TA, HLTA, Behaviour Mentor, or Cover Supervisor in SEND or PRU settings
- Wants to obtain QTS or begin an unqualified path into teaching
- Has strong instincts in the classroom and enjoys helping students grow in confidence
- Is calm, emotionally mature, and ready for a true challenge and real impact
Why this school?
- Part of a respected trust that invests in staff and promotes from within
- Supportive Senior Leadership Team and a team that genuinely supports one another
- Solid Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and career paths toward teacher training
- Long-term role with the potential for permanent placement
- PAYE only, with no umbrella deductions, just straightforward and fair pay
