We are working with a specialist education setting seeking a Receptionist & Administrator to become the welcoming face of the school. This is a varied and rewarding role, ideal for someone who enjoys interacting with people, managing multiple priorities, and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of a school community.
About the Role
As the first point of contact for pupils, families, visitors and professionals, you will play a vital role in ensuring the school operates efficiently while maintaining a welcoming and professional atmosphere.
Working closely with the leadership and administration teams, you'll be responsible for reception duties, attendance monitoring, visitor management and a range of administrative tasks that support the wider school.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcoming visitors, parents, pupils and external professionals
- Managing the main reception area and ensuring a professional visitor experience
- Answering and directing telephone calls and responding to email enquiries
- Supporting pupil attendance processes, including first-day absence calls
- Maintaining accurate records and administrative systems
- Assisting with filing, archiving and general office administration
- Managing incoming and outgoing mail
- Supporting the school's safeguarding and visitor procedures
- Liaising with external agencies, contractors and service providers
- Assisting with petty cash administration and record keeping
- Supporting the wider administrative team with day-to-day operational tasks
- Maintaining noticeboards and school communications where required
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience working within a school, education or busy office environment
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong administrative and organisational abilities
- Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications
- The ability to multitask, prioritise and work effectively under pressure
- A professional, approachable and welcoming manner
- Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
- A good understanding of safeguarding responsibilities within education settings
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting attendance and admissions processes
- Knowledge of working within specialist education environments
- Understanding of supporting neurodiverse children and young people, including those with Autism and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Experience using school management or attendance systems
